Alan Barnes at The Red Lion, Isleworth.
Monday night saw us at The Red Lion, Isleworth for our jazz club although I was too ill to really enjoy it properly.
This is Trevor Tomkins on drums and at the front, the ever popular Alan Barnes on saxophone;
Alan Barnes loves the music so much that he was here in the audience a few weeks ago himself.
You can't see John Pearce on keyboards and Paul Morgan on bass, but this is Steve Waterman on trumpet;

Summer Cycles.
A sultry night in west London, hot and sticky;
This is Mark Armstrong on Trumpet and Flugelhorn playing his
own composition ‘Summer Cycles’
Here’s Simon Allen on Saxophone and out of focus in the
background there’s the amazing Alec Dankworth on bass.
There was Dave Brubeck, and Charlie Mingus just for me, and a
long, sad (when isn’t it sad?) ‘Stardust Memories’ trumpet solo. Trevor Tomkins
on Drums and John Pearce made up a fine quintet.
I still haven’t got my act together to tell you about my trip
to Amsterdam. 12 hours shore leave left me exhausted with 90 pictures to sort
through. One or two even came out right.
What did I do? What didn’t I do!
Tomorrow, tomorrow!

5 Mondays, lucky for some.
I made it back to my Jazz club (The Red Lion, Isleworth) on Monday but I’m a bit of a stranger there
now. I only made it once in January, the month with 5 Mondays (check it out –
no wonder we get sad) because I was looking after my Mum or I was ill or I was
getting back too late from my Monday clinic. Too many excuses. Mind you, 5 Mondays would have been great if I could have made it in.
So this Monday I sank back into the world of Modern Jazz with
Martin Shaw (star of stage and screen) standing in on trumpet;
