Happy Fourth of July!

I'm only just beginning to understand what America is like - it's very different.

For a start, they only get 2 weeks holiday a year - so public holidays are really, really important.

And nothing is more important that the Fourth of July!

I even had to get the grill out (that's a barbecue to us) and try to hack back the overgrown 'cancer garden';

Robyn's been planning this for weeks - at one point I was worried there would be enough food for several thousand.

There was!

It was really nice sitting in the summer sunshine eating kebabs and burgers, potato salad and coleslaw, sweet corn and watermelon and drinking sangria.

The sun was hot, the sky blue and all the problems in the world didn't seem to matter so much for a while.

Happy Fourth of July everyone!
