The deputy's deputy.

I don’t often Blog twice in the same day, but today is unusual. At lunchtime I had to listen to the deputy to the Medical Director of NHS England, setting out rather reluctantly that they will be having discussions with the Children’s Cardiac Unit at Leeds General Infirmary, with a view to starting operations again next week.

It’s serious because it was the deputy speaking; his boss, Sir Bruce Keogh was doing the talking last week, when the unit was shut down.

By rights it ought to be Sir David Nicholson, his boss, but of course he isn’t talking to the press (who have called him the ‘man with no shame’) at all because he wants all the fuss arising from the report into Mid Staffs Hospital to get forgotten about.

So we got the deputy’s deputy taking the blame, which means it all went wrong for them.
